A group of Rotarians from Australia will be coming to the Truro area on June 8th.  The following is the itinerary for the visit.  Thank you to all those involved.

ITINERARY FOR ROTARY FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE, JUNE 8-12, 2012

Friday, June 8, 2012

Arrival by noon.  Meet at Best Western Plus Glengarry, 150 Willow Street, Truro.

Lunch at the Nova Scotia Emporium & Tea Room, Truro (Approx. $6 to $15, at own expense)  (Booked for 15 persons 12:15 pm – 2:00 pm; drivers from Valley welcome to join us.)

Tour of Rotary House, Colchester Community Workshops, Truro (1 1/2 – 2 hours 2:00 – 4:00 (4:30) pm) 

Meet billet hosts at the Best Western Plus Glengarry, Truro.  Have dinner together at the Glengarry (Friday evening buffet 4:00 to 8:00 pm, cost approx. $25 including taxes and gratuity, at own expense. Private Dining Room booked and confirmed.)  Guests leave after dinner with billet hosts.  Balance of evening settling in and relaxing with hosts. 

Saturday, June 9

9:00 am        Meet at Glengarry, lower lobby, and depart for Jost Winery, Malagash. (See www.jostwine.com)  

10:00 am      Arrive Jost Winery, guided tour, wine tasting. (Tour fee $2 per person, at own expense.)  (Booked and confirmed.)

12:30 pm    Arrive Tatamagouche, Train Station Inn, lunch in train dining car  (lunch costs vary, Appetizers $6 - $10; Lunch $8 - $14; at own expense.)  Mr. J. LeFresne, Owner/Operator, will give a brief talk on the Inn and its history.  (See www.trainstation.ca)  (Booked and confirmed)

2:30 pm        Tour of Creamery Square, Tatamagouche, 2:30 – 4:30 (approx.). Entrance fee $5 per person, at own expense.  (See www.creamerysquare.ca) (Booked and confirmed.)

4:30 pm        Depart for Truro; Guests dropped off at Host homes.

6:00 pm        Social evening, hosted by Rotary Club of Truro.  Guests to be driven to social by hosts.  (Social evening venue is Richard & Maralyn Bowness’s Shortts Lake home.  Our club summer social and the social for the Australian FE group are being held as one event.  Lobster will be the main course.  An alternative to lobster will be smoked pork chops from The Pork Shop.  Any costs involved with this social will be at our own and our club’s expense. The Friendship Group will be our guests.)

Sunday, June 10

10:00 am      Meet at Glengarry, lower lobby, and depart for Sugar Moon Farm, Earltown, for brunch.  This is a log restaurant, pancake house and manufacturer/retailer of maple products, truly eastern Canadian. Guided tour of sugar making facility; walking trail close by.  (brunch $10 - $30, at own expense.)  (See www.sugarmoon.ca/)  (Booked and confirmed.)

1:00 pm        Depart for Truro.

1:45 – 2:00 pm  Arrive Millbrook First Nation, tour of Glooscap Heritage Centre, Interpretive Centre.  (See www.millbrookfirstnation.net/  AND www.glooscapheritagecentre.com

4:00 pm        Return to billets.

Dinner on your own.             

Monday, June 11

Noon:  Australian group are scheduled as guest speakers, Rotary Club of Truro, noon meeting (12:00 – 1:30 pm).

Suggestions for activities during the day include:

·     Arrangements may be made for a tour of the new civic centre.

·     Visit to NSAC – rock garden, flower gardens

·     Walking tour of Truro Heritage Homes.

·     Walking trails, Victoria Park.

·     Tidal Bore visit (see schedule in kits).

·     Spending time with their hosts.  (Again, remember, some are doing full-time work during the day.)

·     Day trip to Prince Edward Island.

Depart for airport Monday, overnight at hotel. Time to be advised.

OTHER

Drivers:  Judy Nicholson, Greg Luskow, Jim Gould and I are volunteering our time as drivers during the visit. 

Billets:

Billets have been organized.  Hosts are Jim and Barbara Goit (3 persons); Brian and Carol Matthews (2 persons); Jim and Gloria Gould (2 persons); and, Joanna and John Christianson (2 persons).  Each host has been given the names of the persons they will be billeting.  The information has been forwarded to our liaison Rotarian in Halifax to convey to the group.  Group members have contact information for their hosts as well.
