The Rotary Club of Truro held a Swim to End Polio on July 13th in conjunction with their annual summer social at Shortts lake south of Truro. There were 13 members and friends who braved the chilly water and swam the half kilometer distance across the lake. While that make not seem like it lot, it was a big challenge for SOME of the swimmers.
What is more important, is that the club members solicited for pledges and while the final total is not in yet, over $2000 was raised and the money is still coming in! By the time the donations are given to the The Rotary Foundation and they are matched by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, it will mean that more than 10,000 doses of the Polio vaccine can be distributed as a result of this effort. Congratulations for work well done.
