Roger Ryan
Community Service Award
2016-2017

Our Community Service Award goes each year to a non-Rotarian within Truro or Colchester County who has provided outstanding service through volunteer work and financial commitment to organizations or individuals in need. This year’s recipient is Roger Ryan.

Roger was born and raised in Truro. He and his wife Barbara took over Ryan’s IGA from is father Jack in 1976. many of you will remember that Ryan’s IGA was one of the “go-to” businesses in Truro for community groups, sports teams, and service clubs…..nobody ever left Ryan’s IGA empty handed.

Roger’s community involvement outside his business, includes; membership in the Kinsmen Club, founding member of the Truro Development Corporation, the Truro Park Commission, a Town Councillor, capital campaign member for our new Hospital, including donation of a “family room” in the hospital, financial support for the new Truro Hospice Society building, the Christmas Index program and the Cougar Dome.

Roger has been a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church where he has served as a church elder and where he was instrumental in the upgrade of the church kitchen where high school students now go for their weekly Kraft dinner.

The Rotary Club of Truro is honoured to present the 2017 Community Service Award to Roger Ryan.
