Wayne Gillis
Avenues of Service Citation
2016-17

The Avenues of Service Citation is presented to a Rotarian for outstanding service to the club and Rotary over multiple years while serving in all five avenues of service. This year's recipient is Rotarian Wayne Gillis.

The Rotary International recognition is based upon consistent support of the Objects of Rotary through participation in service activities in each of the Five Avenues of Service, i.e. Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, International Service and New Generations (Youth) Service.

Wayne has been a member of the Rotary Club of Truro for over 22 years. He has served on the Board of Directors for 11 years, including 3 years as treasurer, 1 year each as secretary, vice president, he was our 2005 “Rotary Centennial” president. During his time on the executive, Wayne re-drafted our Club’s Bylaws which hadn’t been amended for 30 years. You can imagine the meetings and discussions he would have had with his assistants at the time who were Jim Cameron and Bob MacLellan. I’m sure they are looking down in approval of Wayne’s recognition this evening.

At the Rotary District level,Wayne served as Assistant Governor for Northern Nova Scotia for 3 years during which time he also spear-headed major amendments to District 7820 Bylaws.

Wayne is model Mr. Rotary and Mr. Community. He lives by the 4 way test and is a great ambassador for Rotary within our community. He’s always able to see the big picture, but that doesn’t stop him from rolling up his sleeves to do a lot of the heavy lifting.

Whether its with; the Rotary Club, the Chamber of Commerce, the Hospital Foundation, the Colchester Community Workshop, the United Way, the Downtown Development Corporation, the Christmas Index Program or just straight pro bono financial services to those in need, Wayne is always there. And always with good humour and a smile on his face.

The Avenues of Service Award is a recognition and thank you for everything you do for our Rotary club and our community.

The Rotary Club of Truro is pleased to present Wayne Gillis as the 2016-17 recipient of the “Avenues of Service” Citation.
