The Rotary International Avenues of Service Citation recognizes that the strength of the Rotary movement is founded on the service carried out by Club members worldwide. This citation program provides a means for Rotary Clubs to personally recognize one member of the club for his/her outstanding efforts in the Five Avenues of Service.
 
Candidates for nomination must in good standing with the Rotary Club of Truro and have consistently demonstrated support of the Object of Rotary through participation in service activities in each of the avenues of club, vocational, community, youth and international service.
 
Dave Mills has been a member of the Rotary Club Truro since 2000.  In that time he has served as a director for a period of 10 years and is currently a Director of Community Service, one of our busiest avenues of service. Dave in fact has served as on Community Service numerous times over his Rotary career. He deals directly with the needs of individuals, families and groups in the community, whether it is for eyeglasses, hearing aids, wheelchairs/walkers and children day care or mothers support such as Maggie's Place.  He also sits on the board (Rotary rep) of the Colchester Community Workshops, one of the major beneficiaries of Rotary support in the community. This workshop provides training for adults in the community with intellectual disabilities. It is through Dave's drive and support of community projects, life is better for many  in the Truro area.​

Dave is an entrepreneur, owning and operating a successful print and promotional products company. His work experiences and training have led to skills development in leadership, sales and business practices. These skills are clearly evident with Dave's involvement in the Community Yearbook, currently in its 13th edition. Dave  also lead the Club's support of the Rath-Eastlink Community Centre.  Dave is a promoter of his vocation assisting the Club with merchandise items which are used by members to create Rotary awareness in the community. 

Dave is well aware of the reach and impact of Rotary throughout the world. His personal commitment to assist RI is through contributions to the Rotary Foundation and as a result is a multiple Paul Harris Fellow.  In 2014 our Club initiated a fundraiser, Swim for Polio, with proceeds going to the End Polio Now Campaign. Dave is an active participant through fundraising for this project and also handles some of the organizational duties for the event. By fundraising for a local events such as this, Dave is participating in a meaningful way to assist Rotary with its international projects. 

Dave recognizes the positive influence community projects can have on youth and young people. Dave initiated the Club's "Adopt a Highway" clean up project back in 2002.  In the early years he enlisted the hands-on help of youth groups as well as children of Rotarians. In addition Dave chaired a fundraising BBQ supporting a 50 year anniversary of minor football in our community.  
 
Dave  continues to be active in the regular Club meetings, social functions and fundraisers. He was recognized as Rotarian of the Year in 2011-2012 and is a member of the Club committee planning the District Conference being held in Truro May 12-15, 2016. 
 
For his outstanding contribution to all the Rotary Avenues of Service, Dave Mills is most deserving of the Rotary International Avenues of Service Citation to 2015-2016.
