Rotary International President John Kenny visited District 7820 April 16th. A dinner At the Best Western Glengarry attracted Rotarians and Friends from all over the Atlantic Region.

Visits to our area by RI presidents only happen once in a Rotary lifetime.  The last time there was an RI President in Truro was 52 years ago. 91 year old Lorne MacDougall of the Rotary Club of Truro was club president at the time.

There was an excellent turnout of members from the Truro Club as well as from around all around the region.  There were 12 past District Governors in attendance. There were numerous awards given out and eight new members (from various clubs) were inducted in Rotary.

President Kenny outlined his plan for Rotary and encouraged clubs in District 7820 to increase membership, improve retention of members and remember that the "Future of Rotary is in our Hands". He outlined the importance of projects in water, health and hunger, and literacy through club and district projects and with the help of the Rotary Foundation. Polio Plus remained a key priority for Rotary worldwide.

President Kenny also reiterated his conviction that individual Rotarians will play the biggest role in the future of the organization. The future of Rotary is, to a great extent, in the hands of not only the incoming officers, who will have so much new responsibility in the year ahead but most of all, in the hands of every member of every Rotary club.

He said he believes very strongly in the autonomy of each Rotary club, and in the power of the individual Rotarian to make a difference.

President Kenny's message and the 2009-10 RI theme, The Future of Rotary Is in Your Hands, was well received by all attendees. Brian Matthews thanked the speaker on behalf of all Rotarians in the District.
