Since the Rotary Club of Truro was chartered in 1926, generations
of community leaders have given of their time, talents and money to make our local
community and many others around the world, a better place to live. This year will be no different.
There are a number of priorities that the Club will focus on
this year. In addition to supporting all the ongoing worthwhile
projects and individual requests that the Rotary gets every year, the club will
select a significant community project for support this year. This support comes as a result of the
community needs assessment that was completed over the past two years.
The functioning of the club is also important. Of first
priority will be membership attraction and retention. Our objective will be to increase membership
by 5%. To do that, there will be a
number of initiatives developed. A
program to mentor new members in the workings of Rotary and an educational
program for all members will be put in place.
Our plan will also be to increase our social events to make Rotary even
more fun.
One of the priorities of Rotary International is
highlighting the importance of youth in our organization. They have even created a fifth avenue of
Service “New Generations” to enhance this thrust. The Rotary Club of Truro will
respond to this by expanding and enhancing the Interact Club initiative begun
last year.
It is through our two major fundraisers, the Auction and the
Yearbook that we generate the funds that allow us to support all the worthwhile
causes the club is involved with. A slight reorganization and streamlining of
committees and responsibilities of executive members will result in an improvement
in the efficiency of fund raising and an increase in the recognition that our
many donor receive.
Great people are known for the things they do, not just for what
they say. This year’s Rotary International “Reach
Within to Embrace Humanity” is particularly apt. The Rotary Club of Truro
is an important element of the social structure of the community and its
members will reach within themselves to provide service above self.
