The Rotary Club of Truro, hosted the Group Study Exchange (GSE) from Japan May 21st to May 24th  2009

The GSE TEAM 2610

 Ms. Sawako Maeda, Paralegal
Mr. Makoto Hosoda, Technical expert of Japanese sake producer
Mr. Masahiro Ootoyo, Senior high school teacher of Mathematics
Ms. Maki Takagi, International Vocational School of foreign language Toyama city

The team of four was welcomed PEI Ferry terminal and taken to the Best Western where they choose their favorite meal, fish, for supper!  They were delighted to find rice was possible with the meal.

Friday was a full day with the tour of Rotary House beginning at 9:15.  We were able to visit the production, sorting, New to You Shop and CafĂ© with the clients welcoming our visitors!  Then, on to the NSAC for a walk through the rock garden (rated as the most enjoyable part of the day by Maki).  The tour of the Aquaculture facility proved to be most interesting to the group.

Lunch at the Palliser (Fish Chowder was the choice) followed by a tour of TruroJunior High School, lead in by a Japanese student who has been in Canada for 6 months.  This was especially appreciated by the GSE Team!

A barbeque featuring planked salmon and a corn boil followed by a bon fire was a relaxing social time for all at the home of Mark and Christine Mason.

The Team chose for Saturday a visit to the Jost Winery in Malagash. On Saturday evening,  each member of the team presented their work, family, area and points of interest for a group of 40 Rotarians.  English is difficult but they did well.  Along with the commentary, a  visual 'Taste of Japan' whet our appetites for travel.

The team enjoyed our Saturday evening "banquet", courtesy of Kentucky Fried Chicken, as well as seeing our Rotary Auction being made ready for the big event.

Sunday morning, Garth and Trinkie hosted an early breakfast.  From there, they were off to the airport flying to Toronto for two short days before their flight to Tokoyo on Tuesday.

For each of us who had the privilege of having contact with this humble, dynamic team, we have gained much.

Thank you to the team
