Don gave an interesting presentation on the OneSight organization that sponsored by Luxottica. It is estimated that 1 in 7 people around the world have vision problems and yet do Not have access to corrective eyewear.
Luxottica is a large global company that sponsors eye 40 global and 30 regional clinics each year to help overcome that problem. Don has attended regional as well as many international clinics in central and South America and the Middle East. He described the feeling that you get from being able to help people who have never had glasses to be able to see properly for the first time. It is fulfilling work.
The clinics may have from 40 to 60 members and they take all the equipment, materials and people necessary to do the examinations, manufacture of the lenses and fitting of the glasses on-site. Don related several stories of his work on these missions.
There is some fundraising involved in going on the mission clinics. Don had successfully organized the "Run for OneSight" event in Stewiacke for several years. This year they raised $1,500 for the cause. He invited members to participate or donate to the event when it occurs next year.
Don as thanked by Rotarian Wayne Gillis (Left) and Chair Dave Ritcey.

The longest serving active member of the Rotary CLub of Truro has died. Harry Pridham joined the Rotary Club of Truro on April 2, 1968 and has been a member ever since. The founder of Pridham's Studios in 1963 when he moved to Truro from New Brunswick, he opened studios in Amherst, New Glasgow and Sackville, N.B and Colour Labs in the studios in Nova Scotia.
We have not seen Harry for a long while at club meetings or events so many newer members would not have known him, however he remained a member of the club until his death at the age of 96 on October 30, 2019.
