Opening/Chair: Kevin Quinlan was the chair today. He asked President Alana to lead the group in the singing of O Canada which was followed by a moment of personal reflection.
Kevin stated that he had just gotten home from overseas and we certainly had a lot to be thankful for.
Visitors/Guests: Guest Al Cooze and Rotarian Terry Pook were in attendance today.
Speaker: Our speakers today were incoming president Ryan Beezley, Incoming Secretary Jane Gourley-Davis and Interact club member from CEC Emma Poole. There are pictured below with President Alana.
The trio gave a presentation on their experience at the District Conference in St John's that ran from May 23-27th.
It was the first District Conference for all three presenters. They spoke about the training, presentations, entertainment and food they experienced at the conference.
Each mentioned how much they enjoyed meeting other Rotarians. Some of the people they had met at other events like Adventure in Citizenship (AIC) for Emma or at RLI sessions. In others cases it was family, people who work in similar fields or even people they gone to school with. Small world. They also talked about making new friends and new connections in the Rotary world.
The Entertainment was described as outstanding. What would you expect in Newfoundland and Labrador? There are a couple of videos (that wouldn't play at the meeting) that you can now have a look at by following these links.

Closing video.
Those that went on the home hosting adventures were treated to some traditional NL food described by Ryan as "gooOOood". Cod and Chips (with other things). The night life on George Street was also mentioned.
Ryan and Jane came back with a greater appreciation for their place in Rotary and an enthusiasm for their upcoming roles in the Club. Emma shared that this was just one more fantastic Rotary experience she has had thanks to the club and that not only will she be sharing what more she now knows that Interact can do with others in the CEC Interact Club, but she will be seeking out a Rotaract opportunity when she heads off to University in the fall.
They all encouraged members to make a effort to go to next year's conference in Pictou.
President Alana thanked the speakers on behalf of the club, echoing their sentiment that the Conference was something we should not miss.
Member Health: No reports.
Announcements and Reports: Our travelling Rotarian Kevin Quinlan had visited a couple of
Rotary Clubs while in the Philippines. He traded banners with one club and he brought their's back. It was presented to President Alana and will be added to our display.
President's Report: President Alana reminded members that the invoices for dues for the 2018-2019 Rotary year would appear in their email box this week. As the club is invoiced for both RI and District dues based on membership numbers on July 1 and we are required to pay within the 1st 30 days, it is important that members pay their dues promptly. The dues will remain the same as the previous year at $195.
Members are also reminded about the
June Director's meeting. It is open to all members and will be held in the CBDC NOBL boardroom, 35 Commercial Street, Suite 208, starting at 7:00 pm.
She also reminded Rotarians that the
Semi-Annual meeting will be held on June 25th after the regular meeting. Please come.
Happy Mug: There were only a couple of Rotarians happy today:
- Keith Gillis who is leaving soon for his big 600 km bike trip in Croatia with the Wounded Warriors organization. He will also be on a charity bike ride in NB soon after he returns from Europe.
- Kevin was happy to be home from a project in the hottest part of the Philippines. It had averaged over 40C most of the days he was there.
50/50: Grant Langford had the lucky ticket but he missed finding the joker, so the $123 pot continues to build. He got the usual expression of sympathy from the other club members.
Closing: 1:25 pm
