Most of Dr. McMillian's research focuses and outreach work has been on newborn and infant care programs in the developing world. This was the topic of his presentation to our club.
in his presentation Doug explained how education and awareness can have a dramatic effect on infant mortality in developing parts of the world. He highlighted several projects he has been involved with that taught mothers to properly feed and care for their infants. Through simple posters, booklets and dolls, trained workers were able to pass the information on in their communities. Kits were available in 80 countries and 33 languages.
Doug outlined several partnerships on projects that he was currently involved with and encouraged the Rotary Club of Truro to be a partner with the Rotary Club of Halifax (and others) on a Global Grant project designed to help infants in Uganda.
Dr. McMillian was thanked by Barbara Goit.
