Opening/Chair: Ken MacDonald was the stand-in chair this evening, asking President Alana to lead the group in the singing of O Canada. This was followed by the moment of personal reflection.
Visitors/Guests: Cheryl Myers was the welcome guest of President Alana. Cheryl is setting up a business in town called Peaceful Places.
Speaker: Tonight's speaker Wendy Robinson, Mayor of the Town of Stewiacke. Mayor Robinson was born in the town, moved away and then came back. She has been on council for 10 years and is in her second term as major. She welcomes the opportunity to brag about the town.
The third largest town after Truro and Mulgrave, Stewiacke has a lot to offer business and residents alike. Wendy outlined the main reasons businesses and families might consider a move to Stewiacke.
The residential and commercial tax rate was lower than other towns.
The infrastructure had been updated and was capable of growth. Only one street was left to be resurfaced.
Town finances were solid and well managed.
The location of the community was a definite asset, located on the major Halifax to Moncton corridor with highway, rail and air links.
There are many lifestyle features for both families and seniors in the community including updated sports facilities, parks, schools, trails and three doctors who are taking new patients (a rare thing in the province).
There is also development plans including a new NSLC store and a mixed commercial and residential development across from Mastodon Ridge.
There were plans for a new and large BMX bike park which would be used for competitive events.
The Town of Stewiacke is a thriving and growing place that is a good place live as well as great place to build a business.
Tom Savary thanked Mayor Robinson on behalf of the club.
Member Health: It was reported that Bart Hinze's wife Helen was recovering from knee surgery.
Announcements and Reports:
Wayne Reported that the club's recognition committee would be meeting right after this meeting.
Barbara reported that she has tickets to Charter Night and encouraged people to register and pay on-line.
President's Report:
President Alana reminded people that next week's meeting would be the quarterly club meeting with expanded Directors and committee reports and updates on the Strategic plan.
Tom Savary was happy that a contractor was working on finishing renovations that he had started in 2010. He wife would finally have a finished bathroom.
Alana was happy to have power after 26.5 hours of outage over the weekend. It was getting cold!
50/50: Jim Goit had the winning ticket but the joker eluded him so the $25 pot builds.

The spring Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) session is being held in Dieppe NB on Saturday April 7, 2018 at the CCNB Campus, 505 Rue du College located off Champlain St in Dieppe, NB. The sign in desk opens at 8:15 am and the sessions will run from 9:00 am to about 4:00 pm.
All three Parts of the program will be offered. The cutoff date of Mar 21st however space is limited in each part, so don't delay in registering if you want to attend.
Registration is all done on-line by clicking this link. The fee payable by cheque (or cash) at the door is $125. Breaks and lunch are included in the fee. When you register, indicate you are paying by cheque.
