Speaker: Since 2012, Jon Hutt has worked in the field of human services. His current focus is to support disabled people, and particularly autistic youth and young adults, to find meaningful, competitively waged employment in our community.
Jon created the Heroes and Adventurers inclusive role-playing game program in 2013. What began with two players now includes over 60 participants each week.
The Heroes and Adventurers program offers a safe place for all. Jon has developed rules and volunteer training to make sure participants feel welcome, with care taken to specifically support disabled players and those identifying as LGBTQ+. Program rules prohibit all forms of hurtful and exclusionary language or behaviour.
Players and volunteers collaborate to build worlds and tell stories while developing skills in math, fine motor abilities, communication, social interactions, problem solving, moral awareness and more. To ensure the program's long-term sustainability, Jon has developed a diverse leadership team, an in-house mentor program, and partnerships with organizations such as the Colchester-East Hants Public Library and the Tatamagouche Centre.
The Heroes and Adventurers group meets at the library every tuesday from 5:30pm till closing and is free to anyone who wants to play.
Jim Goit thanked the speaker for his excellent presentation and for building such a positive resource in our town.

Announcements and Reports:
Matt reported that there has been little change in the numbers from last week so the Yearbook solicitation phase is slowing down. There are still some follow up calls to make and lots of pictures to take so please get it done if you have not already.
Rod reported on making a donation the Foundation for the upcoming swim for polio. Rotarians may make their own donations directly on-line and collect their Paul Harris recognition. Cash and cheques that are gathered by swimmers (and others) are to be turned in to the Treasurer. Please make sure there you have their full name and address to go with the amount when you turn the money in. Cheques can be made out to the Rotary Club of Truro.
Jim Gould reported he still had a few tickets left for Bollywood. Contact him.
Al Cooze reminded people that there were still some who had not paid their dues. (Just over half). The dues are due so please either pay him or do it directly on the club website.
