Opening/Chair: Jane Gourley-Davis was chair for the day was chair for the day and she asked President Alana to lead the group in the singing of O Canada. This was followed by a moment of personal reflection.
Visitors/Guests: Soon to be Rotarian, Andrea Jackson, transferring Rotarian, Jim Harman and his partner Kyle were introduced by Jim Goit.
Speaker: The speaker for the day was Rotarian Wayne Gillis. Wayne has been a member of the club for 22 years, was president in 2004-05 and has served in all avenues of service. He is now chair of the recognition committee as well as the bylaws committee.
He spoke today about the organization of the club, the club's Foundation the Cobequid Children's First organization and their Foundation. He provided a history of the relationships and the requirements of CRA for the charitable status of the Foundations.
He, along with others in the club, were working on untangling and streamlining the organizations so that they would meet the needs of the club and the partners involved. This would involve consultation with CAR and others, some organizational changes and by-law crafting. Progress was being made.
Brian Matthews thanks Wayne for his efforts noting it was a major task but something that had to be done.
Member Health: It was reported that Barbie was essentially housebound by her knee and was welcoming visitors. Call ahead.
Happy Mug: There were a number of happy Rotarians today including:
- Audrie-Jo had a happy guinea pig after a visit to the vet (her wallet not so much). She was also happy that her boys had done a great job creating a comic book they had sold to raise money for the homeless shelter.
- Christine was happy for passing her 23 year anniversary as a member of the club and for her grandson agreeing to accompanying her on a trip to Scotland.
- Kevin for a upcoming trip to England to help celebrate the 100th birthday of a friend who was a survivor of the Exetor sinking in WW2 and one only 3 still living.
- Jim Gould was happy for a great supper (and a super drink) at the Quinlan house.
- Jim Harman for the recently recover their dog who needed surgery to remove titanium from a previous operation.
50/50: Dave Mills had the lucky ticket, but the joker eluded him. The pot builds.
Announcements and Reports:
- Jim Gould presented a report on behalf of the Bollywood committee. Due to the hard work of many, the event succeeded in netting about double what it had in the previous years.
- Lech reported that he still had a supply of the Yearbooks for those that needed them and that he hoped people were making their rounds to distribute them He was setting the rack in Sobeys and was looking for another rack to promote them. Invoicing had been successful. The committee would soon begin to prepare for next years launch.
President's Report:
- President Alana thanked Wayne for his presentation and for his leadership on bylaws for the club and the partner organizations.
- She thanked Laura for reporting that the printed Org chart was missing the Bollywood committee. That would be corrected.
- Preparations for Rotary week (April 15 -21) were well underway. Stayed tuned. Ryan had volunteering service opportunity he would be communicating.
- Preparations for Charter night were also progressing.
- A number of members had attended the TLC held in Truro on Feb 17th. It was a good session.
- Following her report the president proceed to induct the two newest member of the Rotary Club of Truro, Jim Harman and Andrea Jackson.
