The 6th Annual Bollywood is being organized jointly by a committee of the Rotary Club of Truro and Om and Meena Khanna (and friends). It will be held September 28, 2019 at the Holiday Inn Truro starting with a reception at 6:00 pm. East Indian cuisine dinner followed by East Indian and Western entertainment It is a great event, at a low cost and gives us the opportunity to let the community know what Rotary does. Jol is currently one of 4 shareholders of a substantial Atlantic Canadian business (500 employees) based in the Miramichi with operations across Canada in construction, manufacturing, industrial supplies and professional services. He chairs a number of advisory boards for Atlantic Canadian businesses and is active in supporting many businesses across Canada. He can be followed on a weekly podcast at https://bottomlinetopline. From 1980 to 2013 Jol held various roles with Grant Thornton and was a partner for 24 of those years. Other roles while with Grant Thornton include national roles in leading the Professional Services Advisory Practice and Family Business Succession as well as leading the firm’s Professional Development department and a unique role in Partner Support and Development. In other volunteer capacities Jol supports 2 mission projects in Uganda and DRC, mentors emerging business people, assists in economic development initiatives in NL and Northern NB, co chairs Colchester Community Workshop Campaign and the Mount Allison Legacy Giving Campaign. Jol has BComm, Mt Allison University 1980 and an MSc (Training and Human Resource Management) University of Leicester, UK. Born and raised in TRURO in the area called Hollywood , between industrial park and Millbrook Dan resides in Upper Stewiacke where he has been for the last 37 years
Dan graduated in 1980 from CEC (honors with distinction) and was pursuing a career in veterinary medicine at the then NSAC but a weak stomach for blood changed hismy career path and he moved into the optical field He started work at Optical Factory and received his dispensing opticians license in 1982 . He started managing the store on Prince Street in 1982 and has gone through several ownership and name changes
Optical factory - Shorneys Optical - Shoppers Optical - and after being purchased by Luxottica now PEARLE Vision . Dan has been serving TRURO area for over 37 years.
Dan has been married for 33 years to Lila and they have 3 children and now a grand-daughter. Dan has always been active in the local sporting community as a participant and coach. He now enjoys running , cycling , swimming, playing ball, broomball, volleyball and hockey. This past summer completed he first trail ultra- marathon .

There will be some samples, to taste, of the various products that are distilled. This may be a good time to pick up some pre-Christmas Gifts.

Mayor Blair is serving her first term as Mayor for Colchester County. She also served three terms as Councillor for District 1, representing Bible Hill and Valley from 1997-2000; Bible Hill and Brookside from 2008-2016. During her terms as Councillor, she served as Chair of the Police Advisory Board and the Dangerous and Unsightly Premises Committee as well as a member of the County Flood Advisory Committee, Sewer Use Appeals Committee, Joint Taxi By-law Committee and a member of the Community Advisory Committee for the new hospital. In 1992, Mayor Blair became an elected Commissioner for the Village of Bible Hill and served in that position for 13 years, of which three were served as Chair. She was also the inaugural President for the Association of Nova Scotia Villages. During her employment, Mayor Blair was Executive Assistant to a Nova Scotia Minister and MLA; Executive Assistant to the NS Commissioner of Forest Enhancement; Executive Assistant to the Deputy Minister of the NS Department of Natural Resources; Office Manager, NS Forest Products Association. She currently holds the position of Returning Officer for the NS Electoral District of Truro-Bible Hill-Millbrook-Salmon River. As a Volunteer, Mayor Blair is a 22-year member and Past President of the Rotary Club of Truro; President, Bible Hill Cemetery Company; Director, Association of NS Villages. She is Past Official Board Chair and Past Session Chair, St. David’s United Church; Past President of the United Way of Colchester; Past Treasurer, NS Forestry Association; former tutor for adult literacy with FutureWorx; past board member Truro & Colchester Chamber of Commerce and CoRDA. Mayor Blair has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mount Saint Vincent University and Business Administration diploma from Acadia. She is married to Bill Blair, has two sons and two grandchildren and enjoys watercolour painting. |

Bill Mills has been the Mayor of Truro for almost 20 years. He resides in Truro with his wife of 36 years, Phyllis. Together they have seven children and five grandchildren. Bill was employed in the broadcasting industry as a staff announcer for seven years at CKDH and later in sales and marketing for 23 years at the former Radio Atlantic CKCL/CKTO in Truro. He is currently employed in Commercial Print Sales with Colchester Print. He has served on almost every committee in the Town, including Chair of the Truro Police Board and Chair of the building committees for the new library, fire station, public works building and the renovated Town Hall. Bill was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Medal, nominated by his peers, in February 2013 from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities in honour of the contributions made to our community and to all of Canada. Bill currently sits on the Audit Committee, RECC Operating Board and Tourism Committee. |

Today, the Northern Connector Program a collaborate initiative of the Cumberland Business Connector, Truro/Colchester Partnership, and Pictou County REN, in partnership with the National Connector Program is a formal networking initiative funded through Labour and Advanced Education that he will share with you today. Through programs like this, Nova Scotia has seen a higher in-migration than out-migration and we’ve seen more young people stay than leave, that’s a positive sign. Matthew is an Acadia University graduate with experience in facilitation, promotion, program planning, and program implementation. At Acadia Matthew was heavily involved within his community, as a member of Acadia athletics, as well as a volunteer and has brought that love of community involvement to the community. As regional program manager, Matthew will be working closely with established business and community leaders to help employment-ready workers build professional networks across the region. |
