Speaker: Kevin Quinlan: Cuban Mafia
On a previous trip to cuba Kevin and his brother traced the journey of Castro and the rebels from Santiago De Cuba to Havana through the Sierra Maestra.
On a more recent trip they followed the trail of corruption blazed by U.S. mobsters pre 1959. The challenge included finding a Cuba Libre or Cerveza at various now defunct casinos. Along the way they uncovered Frank Sinatra's role as - at which Brian shouted "Say it isn't so!" Kevin managed to dodge accusations of being Hemingway (indeed, the likeness is curious) and visit the birthplace of the Mojito. Kevin noted that, while younger generations seemed indifferent to their mob questions, older generations were excited to talk about mafioso and those exciting times. The journey led them to the underground escape tunnels @ Tropicana and they noted mafia symbols found in floor tiles of all mafia owned property. Another highlight included AL Capone's Sevilla hotel which was built for 500k in 1908, it seems the times have changed in many ways.
Brian thanked Kevin,
