The Truro Rotary Auction Comes to Great Conclusion

The 64th Annual Truro Rotary Auction is now over and has been judged a success by all those involved. In the end there was a total of $32,681 bid on the 672 items. A total 69.1% of the value of the auction items was achieved which is slighted better than in the last couple of years. With cash donations, a total of more than $39,000 will be realized by the auction.
The new, exclusively
on-line format seems to have been well received. While the phones we’re
less busy than in past years, the total number of bidders was more than
twice previous years. Traffic on the website was up by 50% during the auction period. Rotarians
certainly appreciated the ease and efficiency of the new format and
received a lot of positive comments from the public.
The club used innovated
advertising techniques for the auction this year. The Truro Daily news
ran three stories on the Auction which kept readers
informed on the event. In addition to the traditional newspaper flyer
and the street banners, a series of Facebook ads were created and run. During
the 14 day event there were over 2 million impressions or views of the
ad by people 18 and over living within 80 km of Truro!. Over 450 of them clicked on the ad and were taken to the Auction website. When
combined with club members using their own Facebook and e-mail networks
to promote the Auction, the Rotary Club of Truro received unprecedented
exposure for its work.
The Auction Committee will be analyzing the results of this year’s Auction and making recommendations for next year. As chair of the event, I would like to thank all the sponsors, donors, and bidders for their support. I also need to acknowledge and thank all the Rotarians who have worked to so tirelessly to make the 64th Auction such a success. It has been a rewarding experience.
