The Start: Past-President Laurie led the Club in singing O Canada and Lydia said Grace
 
Chair Introduction: Lydia Sorflaten gave a brief biography in which she mentioned having attended the 50th anniversary of her attendance at elementary school on Bridgewater. Her post-secondary schooling was at Acadia.    
 
Attendance:  58 %
 
Fun Fines: All those present were invited to guess the number of competed Yearbook contracts and paid the usual penalty if they guessed incorrectly. The actual number is 202.
 
Happy Mug: Al, Jim Gould, Judy, Joanna, Marilyn, Sharon, Les, were all happy Rotarians.
 
Visitors and Guests:   Margaret (Mag) MacDougall, granddaughter of Lorne MacDougall was a welcome guest. She is a prospective Rotarian.
 
50/50 Draw: Marilyn had the winning ticket but the wily Joker was disinclined to honour her recent birthday.

Committee Reports:
  • Richard reminded members about the upcoming Club golf game on 10 October. He mentioned also that non-participants can sponsor a golf player to augment the amount of money available for charitable donations.

  • Jim Goit reminded members of the three-level Rotary Leadership Institute courses at the Community College on Oct 19th. The fee is $125 and will be covered by the club. The Club Social for the month will be held on Friday Oct 18th at the Glengarry at 7 p.m.   

  • Larry thanked members for their canvassing activities related to the Yearbook.

  • Dave Mills informed members about corporate discount rates available at the RECC Recreation Club. Contact him if interested.

  • Lydia reported on recent community development activities in Cameroon.

President’s Report:
Al announced a brief Director’s would occur immediately after the meeting, He then gave the following extracts from the December 3 Director’s meeting:
  • An Interact representative is required for work with CEC.

  • Rebecca Taylor and Mike Michaud have resigned from the Club.

  • The Club may receive a substantial bequest from a family trust.

  • Charter Night is 20 February 2014.

  • There is a Director’s Meeting on October 1 at the home of Kevin and Sharon Quinlan, 6 Meadowvale Drive.
