The Rotary Club of Truro recently donated $1000 to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. The Canadian Foodgrains Bank partnership has a funding agreement with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) that provides a 4:1 matching grant up to a maximum of $25 million a year. This makes the Club’s donation worth $5000 for the much needed effort of relief in the horn of Africa.
ImageDuring the summer the Club’s Executive committee committed to donating a significant amount to the famine and drought relief in Africa, especially for the Horn of Africa. Each year the International Service committee looks for deep reaching programs to assist people in need around the world.

The Canadian Foodgrains Bank is a federally incorporated, non-profit charitable agency. It is a partnership of 15 Canadian churches and agencies working to end hunger in developing countries. The organization provides direct food assistance in areas of most need, but also works deeper to end hunger. Through nutrition and education programs plus expert advice for projects the organization aims to end hunger. The Foodgrains Bank supported projects in 35 countries, reaching over 2.3 million people through 108 projects.

On Monday October 31st a representative of Canadian Foodgrains Bank will speak to the Truro Rotary Club about their current programs. Any Rotary member or friends in the community are welcome to join the meeting to hear more about the organization’s outreach activities.
