The directors of the Rotary Club have approved the idea of exploring the concept of a new logo - a symbol that reflects our character and identity. What we have now is what appears on the banner; an outline of the province with the provincial flag stuck as a pin where Truro is.  While this may have served us well, there may be something better to represent us. We invite you to show your creativity and share your vision of what Truro Rotary really means by sharing your ideas on a new logo concept.  To do that, we're going to run a contest for club members.

Submission process

  • We are looking for design concepts for a new logo for the Rotary Club of Truro.  No skill in drawing is required!
  • Concept ideas in sentence format are acceptable. Sketches or drawings are can be also included.
  • Submissions should be made no later than 1:30 pm on Monday, January 25, 2010.
  • Other than the RI wheel, the concept must not contain other copyrighted or trademarked material.
  • Submissions will be judged by the Rotary Logo Design Committee made up of Jim Goit, Keith Gillis, Richard Bowness, Al Bégin and Sharon Corcoran.
  • Logo Design Committee reserves the right to modify the winning concept as it sees fit.
  • The best concept submitted will be sent to a professional designer who will create design options for final judging.
  • The Club will have the opportunity to help pick the final design.
  • The member who submits the best design concept will get the recognition deserved for their concept as well as a fabulous gift featuring the first use of the new logo (yet to be determined).

Things to keep in mind about design

  • The logo will be used on the website, FaceBook and Twitter site as well on printed material, posters and street banners etc.
  • The logo should be recognizable whether it's small or large, black and white or in colour, both in positive and negative form so... it must be relatively simple.
  • We need a logo that stands out from all the rest.  There are thousands of designs out there for Rotary Clubs. There are at least two others that are called Rotary Club of Truro!
  • A logo should reflect the identity of the club and/or Truro.
  • The logo may appear alongside the RI Wheel but need not necessarily include it in a prominent way.  However, as it will often be used on its own so it has to be recognized as being about Rotary.
  • It is not necessary to include a graphic, you may choose to design a wordmark based on the "Rotary Club of Truro, Nova Scotia".

A few examples of what other clubs use are shown below.  Some are more traditional than others and do not reflect any preference on the part the committee.  They are intended to give you ideas.  There are tens of thousands of examples on the internet.

Good Luck
