Interact South Colchester Academy is preparing to celebrate the Advent season in the true spirit of Christmas.

The Interact Group South Colchester Academy is full of enthusiasm and ideas for action.  They are pleased to have Mr. C. Ross as their advisor.  On December 15th, they plan to volunteer as servers for the dinner for the ‘homeless’ at the Presbyterian Church in Truro.  On Christmas Eve morning they are going to help sing at the Colchester Hospital  Chapel as part of the Hospice program.  They are planning a coffee house for early February as one of their fund raisers aiming to donate to  a Shelter Box.  Another idea is for a used book sale.  All excellent ideas!

Lydia talked about the ‘Sea Heart for Hope’ project, presenting a number of case studies where microcredit through the bank set up by Integrated Development Foundation has been helpful in Bamenda, Cameroon.

Two case studies were given who showed how Sea Hearts have already given hope to two families:   Kesu who was hospitalized for five days after  losing  her pigs to cassava poisoning says ‘Thank God, Thank God’ for the opportunity to make these necklaces and be paid for doing them.  She loves the bead work, easier than farming she says.    Sabga, newly diagnosed with HIV AIDS, looks forward to earning money so she can buy fabric to make dresses and shirts using her treadle machine.  She wants to be able to pay school fees for her daughter Mimi, age 17, who had to drop out of school for the fall semester because she could not afford the $200 Canadian dollar school fee. The Interact Club of South Colchester is shown in the picture, each wearing a Sea Heart for Hope.  They hope to sell necklaces to be able to donate money to IDF.
