Congratulations to the Interact Club of South Colchester on a successful year.  Pictured here are some of the members receiving the cheque for the matching Shelter Box from the Rotary Club of Truro.  Some of  their year’s activities are summarized below.

The Interact Club of South Colchester chose Shelter Box Canada to raise funds for.  Their major fund raiser was a Coffee House held early in April.

In their words, ‘ It was a lot of work, but a huge success! We raised around $500.00 for our Shelter Box project (we charged a small admission- $5 an adult, and $3 a student, and had raffle tickets on a picture)! We had talent from the school, and former graduates! We had lots of food, and quite a big turn-out from the school and community! We used the cafeteria, and put white table clothes on all the tables, pretty centerpieces, coffee (from Tim Horton's), tea, punch, and homemade baked goods! Everyone there seemed to really enjoy themselves. We were very excited and very tired at the end of the night!   We all thought Shelter Box was a very valuable organization to support. We told the audience at the beginning of the evening about Shelter Box and Interact (we hope to have more members next year). We had info sheets all about Shelter Box on the tables. We had a lot of fun, and only need about $150 now to reach our goal of $1000 to support one Shelter Box!’

For the community project, we ‘ headed down to the Senior's Home to play games  and visit with the residents. Thankfully, most of the girls were able to come (an accomplishment, as many have part-time jobs!)’  In order to finish fundraising for Shelter Box, a hat day was held where students were asked to donate a $1, to be allowed to wear their hat all day in class.  The Interact group have learned that it is difficult to fundraise in a small school where it seems a group is always asking for donations!

The Interact Club is grateful to find that the Rotary Club has matched their efforts and sponsored a Shelter Box! The girls were very excited about this!  This way two Shelter Boxes have been sponsored!   We have already chosen a member for each position for next year. (There are only 4 not graduating- so everybody has a position!) The president elect is Melissa Logan.

Congratulations to a great group for a great year.

Thank you to Chris Ross who acted as staff advisor to the Interact Club of South Colchester.
