The Group Study Exchange Team from District 3310 visited the Truro area Friday, May 17 – Sunday, May 18, 2013.  A social reception was held at the Best Western Plus Glengarry on Friday evening when the group exchanged Club banners with Truro Club President Laurie Sandeson.

The Group Study Exchange team arrived in District 7820 on April 28, 2013 from District 3310, Singapore and Malaysia.  They started their tour n St. John’s, NL, first and remained in NL until Tuesday, May 7th. They travel by overnight ferry to North Sydney and visited Port Hawkesbury, New Glasgow, Charlottetown, Summerside and Amherst before coming to Truro.  They were with us in Truro from Friday, May 17 until Sunday, May 19 when they left in the morning for the Annapolis Valley.  From the Valley, they go to Lunenburg and to Halifax where they will attend District conference on May 24 and 25.  They will leave Halifax on Sunday, May 26th.
 
Those visiting awas Team Leader, June Jonet and Team Members Pei Yan Wiu, Yixin Liu, Jocelyn Maluda and Bee Kee Gan. 
 
June Jonet, Team Leader, owns and operates a media and design company called, “The silverback,” which provides services such as branding graphic design (print and publications), web design and advertising.  It is the appointed media representative (Singapore, Asia, Australia and UAE) for established oil and gas publications such as International Association of Drilling Contractors, Offshore Engineer, Asian Oil and Gas, Oil online.  She is currently in the process of starting business ventures in the digital landscape.  Her vocational interests are media, design, oil and gas.  She is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Marina City, Singapore and is a Rotarian.  June’s host family was Jim and Gloria Gould, Truro.
 
Pei Yan Wiu is a marine engineer (contract engineer) who manages contracts from the signing until end products are delivered to the customer; provides technical data, installation and service manuals; liaises on design, technical materials, quotes and deliveries.  She is interested in shipping, oil and gar forecasts and operations, marine industry.  She is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Raffles City, Singapore and is a member of the team.  Pei Yan’s host family was Mark and Christine Mason, Bible Hill.
 
Yixin Liu is a planning officer and engineer with the Public Utilities Board of Singapore, Singapore’s national water agency.  His job is planning and reviewing water treatment processes, plant design, finances involved, water reuse/treatment.  He is interested in municipal water, wastewater and storm water and how these are handled in our area.  Yixin’s host was Erica Penton, who allowed Yixin the use of her Truro apartment for the weekend.  Erica lives in Halifax. 
 
Jocelyn Maluda is an environmental education Officer with the Sabah Wetlands Conservation Society, Sabah, Malaysia, a non-governmental body.  Her vocational interests lie in promoting conservation, especially in local communities and in schools; nature conservation; environmental education.  She is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kota Kinabalu (Sabah).  Sabah is the most easterly state of Malaysia, located in northern Borneo, and has a population of approx. 3.1 million.  Jocelyn’s host family was Jim and Barbara Goit, Valley.

Bee Kee Gan is the owner of a daycare and early childhood education centre which has child care and kindergarten for very young children (infant stage) to first year in primary education.  She is interested in visiting institutions of child care and kindergarten education.  Bee Kee’s host family was Jim and Barbara Goit, Valley.
