June 20 2016 Bulletin

Opening/Chair:  Judy Nicholson was chair for the day. Joanna lead the group in O Canada (some sang the new words). There was also time for a moment of personal reflection.

Happy Mug: There were the usual number of happy Rotarians especially after such a great weekend

Attendance:  Attendance, even with a few makeups added in, barely reached 55%.

Fun Fines: Finesmaster Al was away so there was no fine.

Visitors/Guests:   There were no visitors or guests.

50/50: Wayne Gillis has the right ticket (again!) but couldn't come up with the Joker.. so the pot builds.

Member Health:  No report but it was nice to see Judy and Jean improving so quickly.

Committee Reports: Judy reminded people of the summer social at Ed MacDonald's cottage at Shortt's Lake,
 57 Grant's Lane, on Jul 16, 2016 from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
It will be pot luck but those with last names from A-L please bring a main dish; those from M-S please bring salad and those from T-Z bring a desert.

Secretary's Report:  None.

President's Report: Everyone was reminded that next week's meeting will be the semi-annual meeting.

Speaker: Rotarian Brian Matthews gave a presentation on Rotary Fellowships.

Rotary Fellowships are independent groups of Rotarians and family members who share a common passion or interest. Being part of a fellowship is a fun way to make friends from around the world. Some groups have a small fee to join but many groups are free.

From personal experience, Brian noted that the Fellowships program is an interesting way to be engaged with other Rotarians.  He has been involved with the Rotary House Exchange Fellowship and had traded homes several times for great experiences.

As June is Rotary Fellowship month, Brian encouraged members to check out the program for themselves.  The Rotary.org website is a good place to start.

Closing: Adjourned at 12:48 pm

Rotary Club Cheers for Charity

The Truro Raceway has invited the Truro Rotary Club to take part in Cheering for Charity 2016.  The club will be the Charity participant for the month of July.

The way the program works is as follows: Seven drivers from the Truro Raceway are paired with sponsor. Each time a driver wins a race at Truro Raceway from June to November, their sponsor donates $25 to the recipient non-profit. Each month, they have a different non-profit organization that will be receiving the donation.  Check out the Facebook page on the program.
We are looking for two or more Rotary members each race day to participate. The dates are as follows:
  • Sunday, July 3 - 12PM post time
  • Sunday, July 10- 12PM post time
  • Sunday, July 17 -12PM post time
  • Tuesday, July 19 -7PM post time
  • Thursday, July 21 -7PM post time
  • Saturday, July 23 -7PM post time
  • Sunday, July 24 - 12PM post time
  • Sunday July 31 - 12PM post time
The week of July 17 is grand circuit week which is the biggest event the racetrack has. We would like to have more people to participate that week. Consider bringing spouses and friends with you that week. Grand Circuit Week draws spectators from Atlantic Canada and Ontario.

This would be a great opportunity for our club to promote ourselves to other parts of the country.  Let me know when you can participate and have some fun.
