Opening/Chair: The Chair for the day was PDG Jim Goit. He asked Alana to lead the group in the singing of O Canada. Then he called for a moment of personal reflection and then ended with reciting the 4 Way Test.
Visitors/Guests: Jim welcomed visiting Rotarians Don Gray, (Rotary Club of Lunenburg), Joe Ueffing (Rotary Club of Kentville) who were driving the Rotary Fellowship Exchange quests from New Zealand. DG Elva Heyge (Rotary Club of Kentville) was also a welcomed guest. She will be making her official visit on Oct 31st.
Member Health: Kevin Quinlan gave a update on Sharon. She is recovering from her fall and is waiting for clearance from the surgeon to travel.
Happy Mug: There were many happy Rotarians including Ted, Kirk, Kevin, Richard, Jim Gould and Jim Goit.
Committee Reports:
- Program chair Kevin asked for suggestions for speakers and volunteers for meeting chairs for the months of November and December.
- Mark Mason reported that they will be reviewing applications for the manager postion for the Christmas Index program immediately after the meeting. Those interested were invited to assist.
President's Report: President Ted welcomed the visitors to our club and to the area. He also reminded members about the Directors meeting Tuesday Oct 4th at the office of Andrew MacDonald at Maritime Auto in Glenholm.
Speaker: The program speakers were the Friendship Exchange team from District 9930. The team leader and principal presenter was Ian Main and wife Kim. Gavin and Ailsa Petrie, Laurel and Murray Smith, Mike and Wendy Tuck, Ted and Lyndsay Mason, Judith Bruckeridge and Max Patmoy.
The RFE team gave an excellent overview of the area in New Zealand they are from by way of a PowerPoint travelogue.
An exceedingly beautiful place with plenty of dramatic scenery and historical sights, the north island of New Zealand looks like a great place to visit. As a result of the popularity of the Lord of the Rings, tourism has overtaken dairy farming as the chief factor contributing to the country's GDP.
Rotarian Tom Savary thanked the speakers for the wonderful overview of New Zealand.
