Judy reminded people to let her know by the end of the week if they will be attending the Dec 2016 Xmas Social/Director's meeting at Jim and Barbara Goit's home next Tuesday, December 6th. She needs to know for the food.
Judy also asked people to let her know if they are attending the Christmas Rotary Family Brunch on December 17th. It is critical to know about any children who will be coming so she can tell Santa.
Ken MacDonald reported that the draft financial statements for the 2015-15 Rotary year are on the Club website under the Members Only menu item across the top. Please review them before the meeting as limited copies will be provided at the AGM on December 19th.
Attendance: 46%
Speaker: The speaker for the day was Dr. Norm Ferguson, local dentist, soccer Dad and advocate for development of local leaders.
This was the second visit by Dr. Ferguson to the Rotary Club. He was last here in July 2015 and thanked the club as we were the only group to ever ask him to return!
Norm walked us through some principles of good leadership and focused on the "Law of the Lid" - how well you lead determines how successful you are. As human beings, we come with unlimited potential and we need to continue to explore and develop our leadership potential.
He asked us to try to answer three questions at the end of every day:
What went right?
What went wrong?
What could you do better?
If you can do that for a week or more, you'll be surprised of the positive effect it will have on your outlook and leadership each day. He gave some examples that the group could relate to.
Norm is a student of John C. Maxwell and his books on the Laws of Leadership. He had one of the newest books as a prize which Alana won. She offered to lend it to anyone who asked (after she read it we assume).
Lech thanked Norm for his thoughtful presentation.
