Opening/Chair: President Ted took over duties of Chair for the day was and lead the group in the singing of O Canada and the moment of personal reflection.
Happy Mug: Happy Rotarians included Ted, Steve, Alana, Joanna, Brian and Lydia
Attendance: The attendance was 56% after some makeups were applied. Ted announced that the directors had decided to discontinue the practice of announcing each weeks attendance at the meeting.
Visitors/Guests: Karen Waugh was a welcome guest of Rotarian Lydia Sorflaten.
50/50: PDG Jim had the correct number (again!) but didn't find the Joker to take home the $8.00 pot. The were murmurs from the back about the draw being "rigged" but others suggested lottery tickets should be purchased.
Member Health: No reported issues.
Committee Reports:
- Steve Gallant reported that he would be again coordinating a RYLA session in the spring. He asked for Rotarians to email him if they were interested in helping with the day. There were students from Halifax already asking about attending.
- Judy reminded Rotarians about the Christmas breakfast. It would be held on the 17th, NOT the 10th as previously reported. She requested the people let her know the names, ages and gender of children (and grand children) who would be attending as soon as they can.
- Mark reported on progress on the Christmas Index program. There had been 250 applications already. While Ellen was looking after the bookwork, Rotarian volunteers were being asked to help at the distribution center.
- Setup would be on Dec 1-4 at the location on the west end (Young Street) of the Truro Center Mall.
- Volunteers would be needed to staff the center 12-4pm from Dec 5th onward.
- Creating packages would happen on Dec 17-18 and Distribution would begin Monday Dec 19th.
- Lots of help will be needed. Dereck Higgins and Chester McPhee would be coordinating volunteers, so please let them know your availability.
Speaker: The speaker for the day was PDG Jim Goit who is the club's Foundation Chair.
Jim outlined what the Foundation is and how it helps Rotarians with humanitarian work locally and around the globe. He also illustrated how every Rotarian can help by making a donation to the Foundation.
Jim played a video that had been created by a Rotarian in the New Minas Sunrise Club that highlighted some the good works of the Foundation.
At the end of the presentation he asked questions about the Foundations and awarded allegedly fabulous prizes to Wayne, Ted, Sharon and Audrie Jo for paying close attention. Jim offered to help people with donations if they needed it.
