The team has competed in the regional and then provincial lego robot competition at NSCC. In addition to robotics the team is encouraged to come up with an innovative project or idea.
At the provincials they were presented with an exciting opportunity to. They had developed a project and had been chosen to go next week to Washington DC to compete In the GLobal Innovation competition. The global innovation Award is worth $10,000 US.
The team explained their project in some detail from conception to development and testing. They issue they were trying to solve has to do with the problem of plastic bags in the compost stream. The plastic mainly comes from dog waste bags. What is needed is a better biodegradable plastic bag. They had developed and made their own and then demonstrated to the group.
The bag is safe for the environment and is even edible! They had tested it at the bale fill site and it breaks down within two weeks.
They have also looked at marketing of the product and had talked to multiple experts in all fields.
In conclusion they felt that their new bag would help the community and the environment.
